Greener Driving
HOW TO BE A GREENER DRIVER
- Pump up your tyres - Soft tyres increase your fuel consumption.
- Lose weight - The heavier your car, the higher your fuel bills. Only carry what you really need and always remove the roof box when it’s not in use.
- Take it slowly - Be light on the throttle. Higher speeds burn more fuel.
- Think ahead - Accelerating and braking burn fuel. Try to anticipate what’s coming up. A steady and constant speed reduces consumption.
- Switch off - Idling uses fuel. Turn the engine off whenever you stop for more than a few minutes.
IT PAYS TO PRODUCE LESS CO2
The greener your car.......
- The less road and company tax you’ll pay.
- The less fuel you will use and the cheaper it will be to run (depending on your car's MPG).
- The less congestion charge you will pay - if you live in or visit London (i.e. none, if you drive a petrol hybrid, electric car or the cleanest LPG vehicle).
- The less harm you will do to the environment!

TRANSPORT
- When using vehicles try to analyse and ensure an economic fuel, perhaps LPG powered vehicles.
- Purchase fuel when passing a fuel station rather than going out your way to purchase.
- Endeavour to reduce vehicle usage by route planning before making journeys.
- Try to use e-mail or video conferencing instead of travelling.
- Provide driver training promoting lower speeds/usage.
- Why not car share, use rail, cycle or walk.
